Photographing 2D and 3D art:   Taking pictures of your art is important for many reasons:

  • For submission to shows or galleries
  • For archival purposes
  • As a reference point for commissions
  • For creating reproductions, prints, giclees
  • Greeting cards
  • Marketing materials, brochures, bio's
  • Web sites, email and Blogs

There's a basic amount of setup time involved in getting ready to shoot either 2D or 3D art, for that reason it's more cost effective for both you and I if we're shooting more than one piece of art. So my cost structure is designed with that in mind. I charge $50 for the first piece of art, then $20 for each additional piece.

All files produced are burned onto the highest quality archival DVD currently on the market (unless you specify a CD instead). Why does this matter? If you can't read the disc 4 or 5 years from now because it's gone bad, you may have wasted your money.

Here's what I burn onto a DVD for each piece of art photographed:

  • Two files sized exactly to the original which can be printed off as an exact duplicate (PhotoShop and TIFF formats)
  • One large Jpeg file sized for submission to shows (usually 1024 pixels on the longest side at 300dpi)
  • One smaller Jpeg file for sending around via email, loaded to a website or posted to a blog

Do you have a lot of old slides or negatives sitting around?

Maybe you or your parents took a lot of film or slide photos years ago; those images are probably at or exceeding their lifespan at this point.

In order to preserve, protect, and even restore them, they need to be 'digitized.' That means getting them scanned, restored using Photoshop, and put on a CD or DVD that will last as long as the current technology will allow for.

Sure you can use some generic slide-scanning service, but they will not restore your images indivudually, that will be done automatically with the results being widely mixed. By personally looking at each image, I can actually make a lot of your images better than they were orginally by cropping, color correction and using all the tools that Photoshop offers to maximize each image.
